Long gone are the days when we could walk out of our house leaving the door unlocked to pop to the shops, with the peace of mind that no one will attempt to break in. Home security is on the increase due to the recent surge of break ins that appear to be happening. So how can we try to prevent this from happening to us and what steps should we take to protect ourselves?
There are some basic security tips that we all should follow that will not guarantee safety but can minimise the chances of our homes being broken in to.
1) Always lock all doors and windows when leaving the property, even if only for five minutes when popping to the shop.
2) If your home is going to be empty for a few days then try and leave some lights on and if possible ask a neighbour to check in on the house for you. You can buy some nifty technology that will turn different lights on and off in your home remotely giving the illusion that someone is in.
3) Make sure any valuables are out of site and car keys not easily accessible. There has been a massive increase in home break ins where car keys are stolen and cars then taken.
